It is common these days that some centers in the Amazon offer patients a very limited menu of plants for dietas. These are generally wonderful and very effective plants, but they may not be the ones that a patient needs at that particular moment.

The plants commonly used at these centers are those which cause a rapid opening of the extrasensory abilities, perception and intuition. In general, a rapid opening of the «upper chakras» (usually occurring when the «sanango» plants are given). However, as many Eastern masters know, the opening of higher centers should be done gradually, and only when the lower chakras (which are generally linked to the core issues that block a person) have been healed. Generating an opening of the higher centers without having opened the lower ones, or using plants of protection that seal the energy body without having healed it first, can cause problems in the patient following the dieta, such as ego inflation, disconnection from reality and difficulty working on unresolved issues.

This knowledge of the precise order in which the plants should be taken has only been maintained in some Amazonian lineages and traditions, and is one of the principles of treatment in our center.

On a spiritual level, a dieta is a privileged space to deepen our practice, be it prayer, meditation, etc. Above all, the dieta is a process of purification, similar to the ones carried out in almost all spiritual traditions by different means that enable us to free ourselves from the contents that move us away from  our true essence and ultimately away from God.

The dieta is also a fundamental part of the training of Amazonian healers. The principle behind this, as in Western psychotherapy, is that is person who has not healed himself cannot heal others.
