Today we celebrate the festival of the Mamacha of Montserrat, Patron Black Virgin, Patron Saint of Catalonia.

Legend has it that some shepherds found the Virgin in a cave inside the mountain of Montserrat, after having seen some lights in it. In that same place, the monastery was built, where she is currently worshiped.

The shrines of black virgins are usually built on the ruins of pagan temples as these places are usually charged with telluric energy where initiation rites were once practiced. The Montserrat mountain is a magical place with a very special energy. It is crossed by water currents and magnetic lines that significantly alter the measuring instruments.

Black virgins are often an adaptation to Christianity of other ancient female deities: Isis, Demeter, Ceres, … The dark-skin-colored representation of the Virgin resembles the image of Mother Earth, the feminine divinity and the ancestral wisdom claimed by the Templars.

It is for these reasons that the Montserrat sanctuary is an exceptional place for pilgrimage when we need to find the way. For us, the Virgin of Montserrat represents the light that guides us in the darkness, the star that illuminates us at night when we are lost, opening our hearts.

Spiritual healing involves recovering our roots, our rituals and the traditions that strengthened our ancestors as they are part of our ancestral culture.
