Psychotherapy and Traditional Medicine

In the therapies practiced at Sacha Q’ente, we apply psychoanalysis and transpersonal psychology, which recognizes the role of the inner healer of each person and the healing power of the psyche itself that emerges in sessions in which the patient plunges into their unconscious. The important thing is that in these therapeutic ceremonies of traditional Andean-Amazonian medicine, the person is fully aware of the self, even more than usual, which allows them to see themselves, without losing any kind of contact with external reality and especially with the notion of self.
The practice of psychotherapy includes interviews prior to each session, where we focus the goals and clarify the difficulties and barriers that the person may have. In the interviews, the experiences or contents lived during the sessions are translated or interpreted in order to fully understand their messages, and apply them better in life.
In traditional healing, the shaman works with the symbolic language that belongs to the kingdom of images. For this reason, the contribution of the psychotherapist, who can work through the symbolic interpretation and the deciphering of these images and symbols found in the session, is to favor the elaboration process, facilitating the assimilation of these contents for a person from another culture.
